Silk Mill Designated as an Important Cultural Property
Ueda was so prosperous in the silk industry through the Meiji and Showa periods that it was known as the “Silkworm Capital”.
You can visit the remains of the silk mills today. Five-story wooden warehouses still stand. This and other important artifacts and structures on display stand testament to Japan's modernization.
