Farmers' Folk Art

Making the most of the long off-season, the farming community in Ueda created a remarkable artisanal culture at the beginning of the 20th century. The ideas spread that one does not have to be professional to create beautiful things, but beauty can be made in everyday items crafted by normal folk. This way of approaching woodwork can be considered another form of sculpture.
